Double 8 Meets 252
Five years ago I saw a Bell & Howell 252 listed on eBay for five bucks. The seller found it in her attic.
At the time, I was learning the ins and outs of classic, small-format movie cameras like the Arri S and K-3 so I bought the camera thinking it’d look cool on my bookshelf.
But when I got the package the camera was in fantastic shape with a hard and soft case, lens adapters, instruction manual, and even a pair of “movie lights” from the 50’s.
Since then I’ve been trying to locate some (discontinued) double 8mm film stock. Double 8 is actually 16mm wide but only half runs through the gate and then you flip the film and shoot the other half.
Thanks to John Schwind, hero of hard-to-find film stocks, I just received two CINE X and two CINE chrome double 8 rolls in the mail.
